Westmoore HS Yearbook Earns Top State Honors

It was a BIG day for the Westmoore High School yearbook program with five major honors and 21 individual awards to celebrate. On Oct. 30, the Westmoore yearbook staff attended the 110th Oklahoma Scholastic Media (OSM) Fall Media Day at the University of Oklahoma, where they were recognized as one of the top journalism programs in the state. The 2024-2025 yearbook’s theme was "Truly Unique," and it held up to its name.  

Westmoore’s The Prowler yearbook staff earned the Charles E. “Colonel” Savedge Sweepstakes Award for Division One – Large Schools, the highest recognition awarded by OSM. The Sweepstakes honor is presented to the yearbook that scores the highest among the All-Oklahoman honorees in its division — the equivalent of winning a state championship in the yearbook world.

In addition to the Sweepstakes award, Westmoore received several other prestigious honors:

• All-Oklahoman Honors – Top four schools in Division One
• Highest Honors, Division One
• OSM Photographer of the Year – Dakota Davis
• OSM Yearbook Advisor of the Year – Mrs. Jana DeLong
• 21 Individual Awards recognizing outstanding achievement in photography, design, writing, and theme development

“It was great to see our staff win sweepstakes and to win the photographer of the year award. After attending last year’s fall media, I set a goal to win photographer of the year and to finally see hear my name announced was great. It was a true honor for me,” Dakota Davis said.

Our yearbook staff was so dedicated. Yearbook is a yearlong with many weekends and late nights. I am so thrilled for these young people. It’s an honor to see their dedication recognized at the state level.
