Assistant Principal's Message
Hi Oakridge Family,
I am incredibly excited to serve as the Assistant Principal at Oakridge this year. I am excited to have the opportunity to work collaboratively with Oakridge’s great staff, students, and families; furthermore, I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know everyone!
I was born and raised in Kansas and moved to Oklahoma to go to college. I received my Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma and began my teaching career in Moore Public Schools. I taught 3rd grade at Bryant Elementary for six years and then moved to 4th grade where I taught math and social studies for 3 years. In 2015, I had to opportunity to move to Timber Creek Elementary and be a part of opening a new school. While at Timber Creek, I taught 4th grade math. After receiving my Master’s in Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, I served as the assistant principal at Kingsgate Elementary.
On a personal note, my husband, Jesse, and I live in Norman with our 14-year-old son, Jackson. Jackson will be an 8th grader at Highland East and is an avid football and baseball player. Most of our evenings and weekends are spent at the ballfields, but we do enjoy going to the lake and the beach.
I believe in doing what is best for kids!! The foundation of that starts with a safe and positive learning environment where everyone works together to ensure student success. It is my goal to work diligently with all stakeholders to foster positive relationships in order to maximize opportunities for our students to thrive.
I look forward to a great year and am thrilled to be a Sabercub!!
Amanda Sumner, M.Ed.
